Entretien Avec UN Vampire/Interview With the Vampire
Published in Paperback by Presse Pocket (September, 1992)
Author: Anne Rice
Average review score:

A good translation!
This book, and the rest of the books that have to date been translated into French in the vampire series up to Tale of the Body Thief, are good translations. Be warned, however, that if you are using this book to help bolster your French, that the translator did take certain liberties, and sometimes things don't quite match up to the original English version. If you are using this book to help your French, I'd recommend you pass Entretien avec un vampire up, and instead purchase Lestat le vampire, if you can find it: the translation with Lestat seemed more consistent. If you're reading Entretien for pleasure, it's good as it is, and stands on its own.

Erin Go Bark!
Published in Hardcover by Andrews McMeel Publishing (17 January, 2001)
Authors: Kim Levin and John O'Neill

So funny you'll howl
I laughed out loud or got misty-eyed (sometimes simultaneously) at the photos and captions in this book. The photographer has captured the essence of doggy expression. One of my favorites (and there are many) is the tilted head and "I'm listening" look of the dog for whom it is wished, "May you always understand what is being said to you." This book is a lovely gift for yourself or any dog people you know.

This book barks up the right tree
I have seen this book and being a dog lover, I really enjoyed it. Some of the captions for the pictures made me laugh out loud. I saw an interview with the authors and the said that The dog we call an Irish Setter her in the US, is called a Red Setter in Ireland. The Pictures are great and the captions are even better.

Filled With the Spirit
Published in Hardcover by Sword of the Lord Publishers (August, 2000)
Author: John R. Rice
Average review score:

Perhaps the very best commentary on the book of Acts
Rice was a fundamentalist in the tradition of Moody, Torrey, Riley, and others. This work is one of the most balanced and helpful that he produced. It is not a dry theological textbook but rather was crafted through the authors own experiences in the field of mass and personal evangelism. Strong on the essentials of the faith and on successful Christian living, Rice ably promotes a New Testament style of life. Refutes some of the errors of dispensationalism and rationalism. Thoroughly recommended.

One of Dr. Rice's commentaries.
Dr. John R. Rice was the founder of Sword of the Lord Publishers some 64 years ago. The publication,Sword of the Lord, has been in continuous publication since its beginning. The book, Filled With The Spirit, is one of over 400 titles Dr. Rice penned. This book is a verse by verse commentary on the book of Acts. He shows clearly that the book of Acts demonstrates that the filling of the Spirit will always lead to a proclamation of the Gospel. He takes the traditional view of the work of the Holy Spirit that the filling and baptism of the Holy Spirit has nothing to do with the modern day phenomon of speaking in tongues. In our day of confusion about the Holy Spirit this book will clear up that confusion and give a clear explanation of the work of the Holy Spirit in a beleiver's life.

Firefighter's Night Before Christmas
Published in Hardcover by Pelican Pub Co (October, 2002)
Authors: Kimbra Cutlip and James Rice
Average review score:

A charming holiday-themed, full color picture book
Firefighter's Night Before Christmas is a charming holiday-themed, full color picture book story, told in rhyming verse by Kimbra Cutlip (and enhanced with the artwork of James Rice), about a firefighting team who are called away to handle a blaze just moments before a familiar Christmas holiday visitor slips down their chimney and leaves some very special surprises. Firefighter's Night Before Christmas is recommended for any family, school or community library Christmas bookshelf as being a heartwarming and entertaining story celebrating the courage of brave people who serve the public, as well as the manifold joys of the Christmas season.

A Beautiful Book
I read this book and thought that it was absolutely wonderful! The illustrations are not as bright and shiny as I would like but the message shines through. I think that now is even more important to remember the wonderful work of our firefighters. I really think that this will become a holiday fav!

First Grade Brain Teasers

Authors: Teacher Created Materials Staff and Dona Rice

Great Workbook
This is an excellent workbook for beginning readers. There are simple activites (dot-to-dot, mazes, completing patterns) for children who aren't yet reading and more complex activities (word jumbles, word finds, complete the word) for children who are already reading. The activities give your child a chance to grow and develop during the course of completing the workbook. My son couldn't wait to start working with it.

A Wonderful, Fun Workbook
My 5 year-old daughter thoroughly enjoys the activities in this book. Good job, creators!

Fish Heads, Rice, Rice Wine and War
Published in Paperback by Durban House Publishing Company, Inc. (July, 2002)
Author: Tom Smith
Average review score:

Refreshing!
Tom Smith did a fabulous job of showing us the human side of a controversial war. He tells how it was from an insiders point of view and in a very easy to read manner. It is refreshing to see that soldiers, even in times of war, are able to stay in touch with their needs ... are able to laugh a little ... and not be consumed by their surroundings.

I was sucked into this book from the very first chapter...I could tell this wasn't your ordinary "take my side" coverage of the war. No hidden agenda's, just experiences relayed. I loved it!

fish heads rice rice wine and war
this was a very interesting book written in an easy reading style. he was not trying to put any pressure to like or dislike the war, he was just telling you how it was for him and his feeling then and now. he seems to be a real patriot and a true american that was trying to do the best job he could do for his men and his country.

The Forging of a Black Community: Seattle's Central District, from 1870 Through the Civil Rights Era (The Emil and Kathleen Sick Lecture-Book Series in Western History and biogrAphy)
Published in Paperback by University of Washington Press (May, 1994)
Authors: Quintard Taylor and Norm Rice
Average review score:

Important book
The review that follows says it all, but I want to add that this is THE book for African American history in the Seattle area. I found it moving and thought-provoking. Anyone serious about understanding issues of diversity in the Pacific Northwest should begin with this book.

Great Overview
Though Seattle's experience may be somewhat different from other parts of the country, the issues were still (and are still) complex. This book not only puts it all in context, but leaves you hungry for more. It's an opportunity to discover unsung heroes, mourn blaring injustices, and refresh the belief that we can still learn from the past in order to forge a better future. As a native of Seattle now living in Georgia, I especially appreciated the breadth of information. Reading Taylor's book inspired me to read Horace Cayton's autobiography and follow up on some of the other sources Taylor drew on. Well written, dynamic, and comprehensive. Can't wait for more!

Frommer's Great Outdoor Guide to Northern California
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (June, 1903)
Authors: Andrew Rice and Marc Herman
Average review score:

E?
I'm pretty sure Marc E. Herman isn't the guy who worked on this book. I think Marc E. Herman is a hydrologist or something like that. The co-author of this book is a guy named Marc Herman. But I think his middle name is Robert and he doesn't know all that much about hydrology.

Really good book though.

A nice, well organized book
Having moved to Reno three months ago, and overwhelmed by the vast expanse of national forests, parks, and monuments just over the border, I am finding this book extremely helpful. If there is an outdoor activity and it can be done in north cali, this book will tell you where to do it. Not only that, it is very well written, gives good critical commentary, and provides other interesting bits of knowledge along the way. It is also nice in referencing additional books that may get more specific in regards to a specific activity. This book should be useful for anyone who wants to explore the area but doesn't know quite where to start, whether looking for a serious, extreme adventure or quiet family weekend.

The Gardener's Guide to Growing Hellebores
Published in Hardcover by Timber Pr (December, 1993)
Authors: Graham Rice and Elizabeth Strangman
Average review score:

Wonderful, compulsively readable - the bible of hellebores!
Hellebores are some of the best perennial flowers, blooming especially in the dead of winter, and easy to grow, but American gardeners don't seem to know much about them. Here's the best book on the subject, by wellknown garden writer Graham Rice and plantswoman Liz Strangman, who celebrate an extraordinary variety of types and species.

Beautifully-illustrated (with many excellent group shots of single flowers), the text sparkles (as is Graham Rice's penchant), covering such topics as hybrids in the wild and in gardens, an encyclopedia section of the species, how to breed hellebores, the national collections in britain, cultivation, plant associations, with an entire chapter devoted just to the orientalis hybrids. There's also a chapter devoted to "people and their plants" with such sections as "confessions of a hellebore addict" and "margery fish and hellebores at East Lambrook".

Even though these are British authors, this is an easy book to transpose into American growing, with a chapter devoted to "Hellebores in America".

This is a splendid book, well worth buying.

You'll get hooked!
Warning: if you read -even browse- this book, you're in danger to get hooked to hellebores for life. The authors know what they are writing about, and shovel sage advice in every page. Several expert growers offer also their knowledge. Not to talk about the simply wonderful colour photographs, that will let you dreaming on hellebores for weeks and weeks and... Simply the best book to enter in Hellebore Land.

God's Word for Students
Published in Hardcover by World Bible Pub Co (March, 1995)
Author: Wayne Rice
Average review score:

Gets Youth Closer to God
The first thing a teenager sees when they look at a Bible is how long and boring it is. Actually, that is not true. I once thought the same thing until I bought the God's Word for Students Bible. This book inspires a close relationship with God by including 365 devotionals (one for everyday of the year). When I got the Bible and began to do the devotions, I found myself trusting Jesus more and more. Reading His word is a key to a successful walk with Him.

The translation is also extremely easy to read and is written clearly, so you arent' overwelmed by the looks of it. It is a "must-have" for any on-fire-for-God teen.

An excellent tool for working with youth
This is a Bible written with youthful readers in mind. It is written in modern English and in paragraph form that kids are used to. It helps them to put their religious beliefs into action. There is an index that allows the kids to look up topics of interest (ie. dating, drinking, popularity) and to find out what the Word of God has to say about it.
